2021 Recipients:
IRTA Scholarships
The Illinois Retired Teachers Association Foundation awards six $1,500 scholarships to incoming juniors or seniors in college that are pursuing a degree in education. Thanks to a very generous private donation from one of our members, Areas 4 and 6 each will award a second scholarship of $3,000. The eight winners were chosen through competition with other applicants from their own area of the state.
In December, information regarding the Illinois Retired Teachers Association Foundation Scholarships is sent to all the Major State Universities in Illinois, all Community Colleges in Illinois as well as all Illinois Retired Teachers Association Unit Presidents and Unit Foundation Chairs.

INTERESTED IN SUBSTITUTE TEACHING AFTER RETIREMENT?
Be sure to keep your teaching license active and renewed.
- Once you retire, you will change your status from "active" to "retired" and there will be no registration fees the next time you are due to renew.
- You will still need to follow the steps to renew the licensure every five years. You do NOT need a Sub License or Para License to substitute teach if your Teaching License is valid and the registration date has not passed. NOTE: if you work at all during the five year renewal cycle prior to retirement, you will have to complete professional development for each year that you work during the cycle. All PD must be entered and you must renew by September 1st of the year in which you are due to renew or your license will lapse. In order to reinstate a lapsed license you will have to complete the PD not done plus pay $500 or take 9 hours of college coursework.
- Register in the ELIS (Educator Licensure System) at www.isbe.net for each region in which you will be subbing.
